Renovation Inspirations: Before and After Success Project: Port Melbourne

Nicon Built has recently completed a beautiful heritage transformation in the heart of Port Melbourne.

The client’s brief was clear: to breathe new life into their heritage home and create a space that featured seamless connectivity between indoor and outdoor living areas. With a focus on functionality, the goal was to craft a home that catered to the needs of family life while preserving the character of the original structure.

The finished project comprises four bedrooms, four bathrooms and an impressive open plan living and dining space. A formal living space and rumpus room are also part of the home, plus a large laundry and mudroom adjoining the garage. A large swimming pool and alfresco barbecue area were added to create outdoor entertaining and dining options.

Throughout the renovation, careful selection of materials played a pivotal role in achieving the desired combination of aesthetic and functionality. Blackbutt timber floors and decking were used for a timeless elegance to the interior and outdoor living spaces, while permeable concrete under the decking ensures practicality without compromising on style.

Standout features include the impressive window seat which wraps around the large window and features storage drawers underneath as well as two full height cupboards on either side. The alfresco area is a perfect replica of the materials used internally, creating a seamless transition from inside to out. The stone hearth is a perfect match to the reconstituted marble stone bench top and was meticulously crafted to mirror the soft curves of the fireplace, showcasing the attention to detail woven throughout the entire project.

The construction wasn’t without its challenges, namely due to the unique soil composition in the area and the size of the pool within the outdoor space. Working closely with neighbouring properties required excellent relationship management and cooperation, which helped to facilitate smooth access during the construction process.

The success of the project was made possible by collaboration with a dedicated team of partners. Port Phillip Building Services spearheaded the initial design and layout, while West Side Cabinetry wowed with their craftsmanship, going above and beyond to create a bespoke window seat that takes pride of place in the living area. Euro Fireplaces sourced and installed the client’s chosen fireplace, demonstrating exemplary communication and problem-solving skills to meet the desired outcome to a tee.

This Port Melbourne transformation is a shining example of thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship, and collaborative partnership. From its heritage roots to its modern functionality, this home embodies the perfect combination of past and present, creating a haven for the family that is as innovative as it is beautiful.
